Meaning and discovering the part you play in the world
Exploring the synthesis of how things co-exist, such as love and grief, fear and excitement, individual and collective.
At Yellowrattle Coaching, I am opening awareness of the whole experience of what it means to exist in relation to your world. These monthly newsletters bring a different lens to look through ideas, and highlight some links that have helped me explore how I relate to the world.
I formed Yellowrattle Coaching because I believe that those who are shaping the future have been given a gift in time - they can create the environment that allows them, and those around them, to flourish.
The most profound lens I have found, which informs my coaching, is looking at life through an analytical psychology, also known as Jungian, lens. Carl Jung believed that the second half of life is about finding meaning in living and the unique part each one of us plays in the world. The way to do that is to understand the totality of your experience, both of body and mind, and explore the synthesis of how things co-exist, such as love and grief, fear and excitement, individual and collective.
For many people, this question around meaning and the part they play, comes to the forefront of their minds routinely; when observing their relationship with their team, their organisation, their clients…..and themselves. But people can feel restricted to perform and respond in socially acceptable ways.
It is perfectly normal to feel excitement and fear when you win work, or hope and loss for the next stage of the growth of your business.
Creating the conditions for you and those around you to flourish begins with reflection of the self.
Some areas to start with might be:
RAIN - Recognise, Allow, Investigate, Nurture - guides us in bringing mindfulness and compassion to difficult emotions, as encouraged by Tara Brach
Agency - invite people to explore with you what they need from you to do their job well, rather than telling them or assuming. Offering ownership of tasks, and showing trust, creates strong foundations for growth.
Feedback - Recognise that it is your experience you are relating back, it is subjective. The objective may have been met, just not the way you would have done it. What does it tell you about your needs?
Communication - how are you creating meaningful dialogue? When we create stories around purpose, to aid understanding of the world, it supports the building of confidence to face it.
Things that have piqued my interest this month:
Podcast with a ‘ah-ha!’ moment in the last month: I don’t always agree with the guests views on this show (which is exactly why I’m listening), but it’s very engaging. The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett
App I can’t live without this month: Relive Relive creates memories worth sharing. Get out there, and inspire others with your unique outdoor adventures - you get a great video of your trek / walk / run / bike overlayed onto a moving map
Video blog of the month: When the balloon bursts!
As you’ve got this far, would you like to work together?
I am open to working in a consulting, speaking and coaching capacity.
My professional coaching is twofold:
Psychodynamic coaching: understanding why you are resisting the changes you want to make, exploring the defensive tactics that keep you stuck. A deeper investigation using insights from analytical psychology, facilitated through coaching.
Person centred coaching: building your convergent and divergent thinking capability to enable you to gain clarity over how you want to address your challenge or opportunity.
